In this Wall Street Journal article, Lucy Bernholz offers the following quote about the effectiveness of donations:

Donating directly to a charitable organization is still the most effective way to give, says Lucy Bernholz, president of Blueprint Research and Design, a philanthropy advisory firm that publishes a blog on the business of giving. “You know for sure that the money will go where you want it to go,” she says.

In this Washington Post article, Lucy Bernholz offers the following quote about “good gifting”:

“This year, largely due to the economy and people’s own money concerns, consumers are looking for ways to be thrifty and generous all at once,” said Lucy Bernholz, president of Blueprint Research and Design, a philanthropy advisory firm that publishes a blog on the business of giving. That two-for-one desire has led to what she calls “good gifting,” of which the cards are just one example.

In this Jewish Week article, Lucy Bernholz offers the following commentary on good gifting and online giving marketplaces:

This growing holiday trend — referred to as “good gifting” — “involves giving a philanthropic gift in someone else’s name or giving them the choice of a charitable donation instead of more stuff,” writes Lucy Bernholz, founder and president of Blueprint Research & Design, Inc., a consulting firm for philanthropic organizations and individuals, on her blog, Philanthropy 2173.

Bernholz estimates that there are currently more than 130 online giving marketplaces, with JGooders being the sole portal focused exclusively on Jewish and Israeli causes. “Online giving markets are now an established part of the giving landscape — and for good reason,” Bernholz told The Jewish Week. “At their best, they do high-quality due diligence at low cost and scale, they share great information with donors that has been proven to move people to give and the best of them are leaders in transparency, accountability and engagement.”

Back to the future,” L. Bernholz (December 2008). Article published in Alliance.

In this Marketplace interview, Lucy Bernholz tells Kai Ryssdal  that the trend this year in giving is taking big ideas and making them small. (Listen to this Story)
