We currently have two positions open:

Analyst

Blueprint R & D seeks to hire an analyst to conduct primary and secondary research and writing for client projects. Analysts work on project teams under the supervision of senior management and may supervise research associates.  Analysts collect data, synthesize and analyze research findings from secondary sources, implement work plans, manage project timelines, and participate as requested in client meetings.

The primary responsibilities for this position include:

  • Synthesizing secondary research in various areas of social policy;
  • Working with project managers to develop and implement primary research strategies including, but not limited to: survey design and implementation, content analysis, literature reviews, focus groups, and interviews;
  • Working with project managers to analyze research findings to address clients’ information needs;
  • Building and managing data sets, including multi-year data;
  • Analyzing and summarizing quantitative data drawn from surveys and outside data sets using Excel or SPSS; and
  • Writing and editing reports for clients.

In addition to the above responsibilities, analysts may have related responsibilities that include:

  • Participation in select client meetings and occasional public representation of the firm;
  • Writing for publication;
  • Identification of and participation in business development opportunities for the firm; and
  • Oversight of research and support staff.

Qualifications

The key qualifications for an analyst are:

  • Intense intellectual curiosity and interest in a broad range of social issues;
  • At least five years of work experience, including at least two years in the nonprofit, grantmaking, social venture/social entrepreneurship and/or public policy fields;
  • Significant experience conducting quantitative and qualitative research and strong understanding of methods;
  • Very strong analytical skills;
  • Experience managing basic survey design, implementation and data collection;
  • Experience analyzing data using Excel or SPSS;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and complete projects on schedule;
  • Ability to summarize and synthesize the key findings/lessons drawn from data and information from a variety of sources;
  • Ability to work effectively on teams;
  • Advanced degree in public policy, sociology, urban studies, education, management or related field encompassing social science research;
  • Familiarity with Theory of Change evaluation and logic modeling preferred;
  • Some consulting experience a plus.

Typical Physical Demands

  • Sit at a desk for 2-3 hours at a time
  • Work on a computer for 6 hours, on average, each day
  • Lift and move documents and supplies
  • Bend to file and retrieve documents

This position will be located in Blueprint’s San Francisco office. Occasional travel may be required. 

The position will be full-time.  Telecommuting and flexible work schedules are possible. Medical, dental, retirement, and commuting benefits are offered. Summer Associate

Blueprint wants to support the advancement of someone pursuing a career in the social sciences and/or social sector (and of course, ease our firm’s workload).  We’re looking for candidates who are intelligent and motivated and who want hands-on experience in applied social science research.  We offer:

The key qualifications are:

  • Extremely strong orientation to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks in a timely manner
  • Experience using SPSS, Excel, or both for simple quantitative analysis
  • Excellent research, writing, and verbal communication skills
  • Interest in a wide range of social issues—experience in health issues or the nonprofit sector especially desirable
  • Familiarity with Filemaker Pro and/or Access database software
  • Strong PC and Internet skills
  • Excellent organization and project management skills
  • Team-oriented, professional, with a sense of humor
  • College degree required—a social science degree and research experience especially desirable

This position could be full-time, or slightly less (if negotiated), and is expected to begin in early to mid-June and last through at least the second week of August.  Pay will be a flat-fee stipend and will be negotiated individually.
