New Resource: Web 2.0 for Grantmakers

Blueprint has developed a wiki for philanthropic foundations interested in using Web 2.0 technology tools such as blogs, tags, and social networks to improve their grantmaking practices.  For each tool, the site provides a brief description of how grantmakers could put it to use, links to actual tools, links to more in-depth information, and simple information about the time and money needed to implement it.  The tools are grouped into categories by how they are most often used.

New Reports: Digital Media and Learning

Blueprint is providing strategic advice and research support for the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation's Digital Media and Learning Initiative, a $50 million effort over five years to support research and innovative projects focused on digital media, youth and learning. In addition to documenting the development of the Initiative, Blueprint is authoring a series of reports for public use which will help define the emerging field of digital media and learning. Read the first two reports:

Catalyzing Creativity through Competition: Building the Field of Digital Media and Learning, describes the power of competitions to spur innovation in digital media.

Pedagogy, Playstations and the Public Interest, explores public interest and public responsibility as they relate to children, learning and the current digital media revolution.

Aligned Investing: Tools for Philanthropic Success

On February 12th, Lucy Bernholz participated in the Hudson Institute's Bradley Center for Philanthropy and Civic Renewal's panel discussion on aligning foundation investments with grantmaking. Other panelists included Jon Entine, Allison Fine, and Paul Driessen. Read Lucy's comments here.

New Alliances

Partnerships are a key part of Blueprint's business model. We value the flexible, boutique-quality services we provide to clients and keep our staff small to deepen these relationships. To meet the wide range of client opportunities, we work with our network of partners to complement our strengths, deepen our bench, and diversify our services and products. We are proud to announce some of our new strategic alliances.

New Services

Beginning in 2007 we'll be augmenting our Industry Analysis work with some new services. In addition to the writing, conference presentations, and facilitation/planning sessions we do for individual foundations and networks, we will be available to:

  • Conduct international research on philanthropic trends and help donors and foundation professionals incorporate this analysis into their organizational and program planning.
  • Cover conferences or other public meetings or initiative/publication launches on our award-winning blog, Philanthropy 2173: Provocations on the Future of Philanthropy.
  • Participate in podcasts, video-conferences, SecondLife events, and web-forums to inform donors, boards, and other stakeholders about key trends in philanthropy.
  • Help grantmakers understand the changing media and technology landscapes and integrate those capacities into their program strategies.
